Problem-Solution Fit
Mark Mahoney, Logistics and eCommerce Lead at Avo by Nedbank, was tasked with finding a way to showcase the app’s takeaway and on-demand delivery capabilities. “When it comes to our on-demand orders for liquor and takeaways, we outsource deliveries to ensure our app users get super fast delivery directly to their home,” explains Mark. “However, I had no visible brand association connected to these deliveries, and I needed to find a way to link the delivery bikes with Avo’s successful on-demand services and product delivery.”
A second challenge quickly surfaced: outsourced delivery providers required lengthy campaign commitments and steep costs to brand their bikes. “I could not justify that expense and commitment at that point,” Mark notes. The brand needed a flexible yet powerful way to flood Sandton with Avo branding without the cost and complexity of building or branding an entire fleet. That was when a colleague referred Mark to MotionAds.

Solution
MotionAds activated its Perception Creator strategy, tailor-made for exactly this kind of brand challenge. “From the moment I spoke to Jon I knew he had the right attitude and approach,” says Mark. “Right away he could see what strategy to use to get our brand as much visibility as possible.”
The campaign deployed our fully branded delivery bikes, each featuring a striking top-box and booster fin for maximum roadside and pedestrian visibility. This wasn’t just branding, it was about creating the perception of a large, dedicated Avo delivery fleet operating throughout Sandton.
Delivery bike advertising offers a unique balance of flexibility and focus. It delivers the traditional benefits of awareness, customer acquisition, and market expansion, while also creating the powerful perception that Avo operates a large, active delivery fleet. This visibility reinforces the idea that the app is a popular and trusted choice within the community.
To push the street-level impact further, over 16,000 branded flyers were hand-delivered to customers’ doors with each order, bringing the message into homes, keeping Avo top of mind at the moment of consumption and driving new customer acquisition.
A digital layer brought the campaign full circle: customers were encouraged to spot and snap photos of the branded bikes in action and share them on social media to win vouchers in the Avo app. This sparked organic reach and gave the campaign traction across platforms.

Results
The campaign was a resounding success, with 25 branded bikes covering more than 90,000 kilometres over 11,000 driving hours. More than 16,000 flyers were hand-delivered directly to customers’ homes, and the combination of physical visibility, door-to-door reinforcement, and social media buzz resulted in a 198% brand lift.
For anyone living or working in Sandton during the campaign, Avo was simply unavoidable. The branded fleet created a powerful sense of ubiquity, while the flyer drops reinforced the brand message at the moment of consumption. The social media competition bridged offline and online worlds, driving conversation and engagement around the brand.
Mark was emphatic about the outcome. “They run their operation very well. Jon does what he says he’ll do, when he says he’ll do it. I couldn’t fault them, not in the least. In fact, they go above and beyond - sending me data, images, reports, and more. All in all, I found the team easy to work with, and the end product professionally executed.”
He concluded, “I’m glad I went that way rather than doing it with the others. This was more personal, more hands-on with Jon and his team. Sandton spotted the bikes, snapped the pics, and brought the energy! As part of our festive campaign, we challenged locals to find the Avo by Nedbank branded delivery bikes and share their sightings on Twitter. By tagging Avo By Nedbank and using #AvoBike, entrants stood a chance to win R500 to spend on the Avo app. From food and fashion to gadgets and groceries: the entries rolled in, and so did the excitement.
