In the early days, marketing constraints posed a significant hurdle. “The website was good and contained everything the customers needed to know to make an informed buying decision, but no budget meant no marketing, which meant no sales,” says Rudo. “As a last resort I took out a loan in my wife’s name,” he continues, “and spent it on marketing: Google ads, Facebook ads and a MyBroadband published article. Thankfully, this was enough to get the ball rolling.”
While digital marketing created initial traction, the challenge remained: how to build consistent brand presence and credibility for a high-consideration product in a competitive market - without relying solely on performance channels. Digital impressions alone were not enough to create the repeated exposure and real-world familiarity needed to confidently convert first-time buyers.
There was a clear need for an additional marketing touchpoint - one that could strengthen awareness, build trust, and support the broader sales funnel beyond screens.

Solution
MotionAds deployed branded delivery bikes across Johannesburg and Cape Town, transforming our drivers into moving Sloom billboards while navigating their daily delivery routes. In addition to the branded top-boxes and booster-fins, our drivers distributed another advertising touch point directly into the hands of customers by attaching our in-home flyers to every order. Each one featuring a clear call-to-action, discount codes, and simple sign-up instructions driving traffic to Sloom’s online store.
“When Jon from MotionAds called me, I liked what I heard and saw right away,” says Rudo. “We had a lot in common: at that time they were also a new ad small business with a unique and new solution. I could relate to them. They offered a marketing solution that was affordable and something other than digital marketing, where most of my marketing budget went.”
By combining consistent mobile visibility with tangible takeaways like our flyers, the campaign extended Sloom’s digital messaging into the physical world - creating repeated brand touchpoints that supported conversion.
In addition, on multiple occasions, bikes were strategically positioned around expo centres to amplify Sloom’s presence during their exhibition periods. This ensured that visibility didn’t stop at the venue doors, but instead formed part of a broader customer journey - reinforcing recall before, during, and after the expo experience.

Results
The campaign expanded Sloom’s reach across key target neighbourhoods, generating strong traffic to the online store. Flyer distributions converted at impressive rates, directly contributing to first-time purchases and measurable growth in customer acquisition. Consistent, high-frequency visibility built familiarity and trust - strengthening Sloom’s offline presence to support and amplify its digital strategy.
“We were excited to add another valuable marketing touch point for brand awareness in Sloom’s sales funnel,” says Jon. “We started out with three bikes in Joburg in September 2019, and this quickly increased to 10 branded delivery bikes as Rudo saw immediate value.”
By December 2020, there were 10 branded bikes coupled with flyer distribution, quickly joined by an additional 10 bikes in Cape Town. A refreshed flyer rollout was launched to drive lead generation and sales through clear calls-to-action and discount codes, supported by comprehensive bike tracking for accountability and optimisation.
“With 20 bikes on the road, every day of the week, twelve months of the year, Sloom’s brand and message now reaches their target LSM at their homes, with the associated convenience and comfort of food and takeaway delivery,” says Jon.
The bikes were further used to support Sloom’s expo presence, strategically positioned around exhibition venues to amplify visibility before, during, and after events - ensuring that brand touchpoints extended beyond the expo floor and became part of a broader mental journey for potential customers.
