Because Vodacom’s branches operate independently on a regional level, each campaign required a tailored, hyper-local approach. National advertising creates broad brand presence, but regional branches needed focused exposure within their own territories - ensuring their specific deals were seen repeatedly by the right audiences.
Telecom promotions are often short-term and highly competitive, meaning awareness alone isn’t enough. Repetition, familiarity and sustained visibility within key neighbourhoods were critical to driving consideration. The challenge was to embed Vodacom’s campaign messaging into the daily routines of commuters and residents across selected zones in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town - not just online or in-store.

Solution
The first campaign launched in 2022 across Johannesburg and Pretoria, deploying a branded bike fleet to drive awareness in targeted catchment areas. Later that year, a Cape Town campaign followed with a slightly smaller fleet, tailored to the region’s specific promotional focus.
In 2023, the partnership continued with another Johannesburg rollout, followed by a year-end Cape Town campaign. Most recently, two additional Johannesburg campaigns were executed - strategically split by region, first focusing on Johannesburg South and then Johannesburg East, ensuring concentrated exposure within clearly defined branch territories.
Across campaigns, Vodacom made use of a mix of MotionAds products, including branded top boxes, booster fins and flyer distribution. This layered approach combined high-impact mobile visibility with tangible promotional messaging, ensuring that key product pushes and data deals were consistently seen and, where relevant, physically placed into consumers’ hands.
By maintaining a sustained presence across multiple three- to four-month flights in different cities and regions, Vodacom successfully embedded its promotional messaging into high-traffic suburban and commercial environments.

Since 2022, Vodacom has repeatedly returned with new regional campaigns: a strong indicator of the medium’s effectiveness in delivering localised, high-frequency awareness.
The staggered rollout across Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town - and more recently within specific Johannesburg regions - demonstrates the platform’s flexibility in supporting independent branch objectives. The campaigns created consistent visibility within targeted communities, reinforced promotional messaging during key sales periods, and supported broader marketing efforts driving in-store engagement.
